He was a Range Safety Officer at the largest public shooting facility in the United States, Ben Avery Shooting Facility. Maxwell has been involved in competition shooting since age 12 when he first began learning the art of muzzle loading shooting. He shot on his high school marksmanship team and has shot in various competitions, including: Three Position Smallbore, Three Position Air Rifle, Four Position BB Gun, USPSA, Steel Challenge, Team Challenge, Sporting Clays, Highpower Rifle, Rifle Silhouette, and King of 2 Mile Smallbore.
Maxwell has a degree in Paralegal Studies and enjoys teaching about firearm laws. He was a member of the Maricopa County Bar Association Paralegal Branch while he was a practicing paralegal. He has taught thousands of students in Arizona, as a volunteer instructor for the Arizona Game and Fish Department, on staff with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, through his own business, Black Wolf Weapons and Training, with the Royal Rangers Ministry as a National Field Advisor for the National Shooting Sports Program and as the Shooting Sports Coordinator for the Arizona District, and as an Instructor with Dynamic Combative Solutions.
Maxwell has a passion for ensuring students receive quality information, that they understand it, and that they can recall the information that was presented. All too often, students are thrust into the world of firearms law in classes that are either way too brief or far too technical for them to grasp. Maxwell authored this book, to guide students and give them a valuable resource in Arizona firearms laws in terms they can understand, and to give instructors a guide from which to teach.
